Materials

  • 1 square sheet of paper
  • Flat surface

Step-by-step Instructions

1. Fold Diagonally

Start with a square paper. Fold in half diagonally to form a triangle, colored side on the outside.

Step 1 — fold the square into a triangle

2. Fold the Tail

Take the bottom point of the triangle and fold it to one side at an angle, creating the tail of the fish.

Step 2 — fold the bottom point out as the tail

3. Fold Back the Tail Tip

Fold the tip of the tail back slightly to create a forked tail effect.

Step 3 — fold the tail tip for a forked tail

4. Create the Body

Fold the top edge of the triangle down about one-third of the way. Then fold the paper in half vertically to create the fish body.

Step 4 — fold the top edge down and in half

5. Shape the Fish

Adjust the tail and body folds. Draw an eye on one side. Your origami fish is complete!

Step 5 — shape the fish and add an eye

Pro Tips

  • Use orange paper for a goldfish look
