Origami Flowers: Paper Blooms That Never Wilt

Origami flowers are perfect for gifts, table decor, wedding favors, and handmade cards. They are also among the most forgiving folds for beginners — if a petal is slightly off, the flower still looks lovely. With a handful of blooms you can build a bouquet that lasts forever.

Choosing paper for flowers

Lightweight kami paper folds the cleanest petals. For a more natural look, try slightly textured paper or washi. Crepe paper and tissue paper work for soft, layered flowers but are harder to fold precisely — save them for projects where you are willing to improvise.

Make a few, then combine

Each tutorial below gives you one bloom. Fold several in different sizes and colors, then group them into a bouquet, glue them to card fronts, or attach stems made from green paper or floral wire. Different paper sizes (7.5 cm, 15 cm, 20 cm) create petals at different scales.

Keeping blooms neat

  • Use a bone folder to sharpen creases on thick paper.
  • For glued layers, apply a tiny dot of glue — too much will stain light paper.
  • Let finished flowers dry flat under a book for a minute before shaping petals.
