Materials

  • 1 square sheet of paper (origami or printer paper cut to square)
  • Flat surface

Step-by-step Instructions

1. Fold Diagonally Both Ways

Start with a square paper. Fold in half diagonally, unfold, then fold in half diagonally the other way. Unfold.

Step 1 — crease both diagonals on the square

2. Create the Triangle Base

Using the diagonal creases, collapse the paper into a waterbomb base (a triangle with four flaps).

Step 2 — collapse into a triangle base

3. Fold the Legs

Take the two bottom flaps and fold them upward to form the front legs. Fold the tips down to create feet.

Step 3 — fold up the front legs and feet

4. Fold Sides to Center

Fold the left and right edges of the bottom layers to the center line.

Step 4 — fold the side edges to the center

5. Create the Jumping Mechanism

Fold the bottom point up, then fold it back down on itself. This creates a Z-fold that acts as the spring for jumping.

Step 5 — make the jumping Z-fold

6. Form the Back Legs

Fold the remaining two flaps outward to create the back legs. Your frog is ready to jump!

Step 6 — fold out the back legs

Pro Tips

  • Use thicker paper for higher jumps
  • Press firmly on the back to make it jump
  • Have a frog jumping contest with friends
